But I'll say it again. If you aren't out there shoveling your walk and sections of sidewalks after the snow stops, you're a jerk. If you are sitting at home enjoying a nice cup of piping hot cider while your sidewalk turns into a sheet of ice, you're a cobag. You're also liable.
The people in my neighborhood really suck. I'm keeping my eye out for new housing as my lease ends on March 1. I like my apartment and some of my neighbors, but I think I would like more space, even if it meant more roommates. They will have to be spider-friendly roommates.
What, the city doesn't shovel the sidewalk?
Madison is the same way, the city doesn't shovel the sidewalk but if you don't shovel your property's sidewalk and someone complains, you get a $110 ticket for the first offense and $170 for subsequent ones.
Keep in mind f you don't wait until the snow is all sucky and icy to shovel that the great city plows often come through and throw more snow onto your freshly cleared sidewalk.
Yeah, well DC rarely gets enough snow for the plows to cover the sidewalks with their slushy discharge.
Mandos, the city can barely be bothered to plow the streets in my neighborhood.
Yep, Milwaukee's the same. 2 days to shovel.
Where I live is near the University, though, so if we don't get it right away it gets all tromped down and impossible to shovel, so I get to it right away.
Although one of the tromping college students threw a beer bottle through my front window the other night, so fuck 'em. I'm leaving it unshoveled from now on to slow 'em down so I can catch 'em to administer the several cans of whoop-ass their parents never did.
OT: Chuckles, did you receive my email?
Huh. American cities. So lame.
Boston and PHL are also the same. The most expensive house in my area of Boston was always the biggest cobag. There is nothing you can do!
Go on the Craig's List and make it happen!!
Somehow Craigslist failed me last year. And the year before. I'm still in the same place. I'm considering not bothering this year, except that I have to pretend I am.
Come to Boston. I need a housemate (and I have a snowblower).
It's probably also important for them to be roommate-friendly spiders.
These are all fine points and I feel obligated to state that Craigslist has failed me every time. This bullshit about ppeple saying "Female Only" or "We are really looking for a woman to move in" pisses me off. It's a flagrant disregard for both fair housing laws and Craigslist posting terms. I flagged every post I saw that said that during one week. Now, I don't bother using it.

I love Chuckles.
ps. places where it doesn't snow don't have such street/sidewalk issues.
Yeah, but those places have other issues relating to various forms of water or lack thereof.
it actually snowed in oakland after I posted that comment. I am some kind of irony goddess.
