I'm not saying that what's happening to that guy is right or wrong, but who are we (the US) to judge? Would Bush be so quick to speak out if the person sentanced to death was Jewish or Hindu? I don't think so. You can selectively respect life based on religion.
It is deeply troubling. It shows that the whole idea that we are bringing democracy to the freedomless is a crock of crapola. It shows that we have a much bigger problem that knocking over a hundred tin-pot dictators won't solve. We have to figure out something much more complicated than "simply" defeating an enemy on the battlefield.
We, the USA or anyone else, absolutely can judge. (And we won't be right all the time.) Relativism is all fine and dandy until that nice girl who lives next door and used to babysit your children/friends is killed by her parents (PARENTS!) for being seen walking down the street holding a boy's hand. Or someone is sentenced to death for something they THINK!
Reread the entire thread. If the guy were Jewish I am certain that Bush would say something, but not if the dude were Hindu or something. It was not a comment on Judaism or Jews, but a comment on Bush and the political focus in terms of religion.
