The US Senate: Tough as Nails on a Blackboard

The Senate is apparently forwarding a bill to raise the fine for hiring illegal immigrants to $20,000. This means deep doo doo pie for me and my team of Phillipino Stabbing Shortstacks and I am sure that Smithfield Farms are similarly quaking in their boots.

I think the Senate forgot a few zeroes. Like three or four. INS and/or IRS should be wandering around and asking to see the hiring managers files of 'proof that you are eligible to work in the US' papers that employers are required to keep on record. If the documents are forged then the fine is moot because it is unreasonable to expect every hiring manager to be an expert in detecting forgeries. If the managers are blatantly hiring undocumented workers, then the company should be fined for not policing itself and the hiring managers should also face a stiff fine and/or jail time. Just like those juicy farts at Enron. Get that passed and then you would see a real scuffle as hiring managers everywhere cleaned up their act and their bosses went apeshit. The only problem would then be that we would have 11 million more unemployed people in the US. That would be a huge drain on our resources. So, we should give them some sort of amnesty a while enacting the stiffer fines. New illegals are denied jobs and the old ones don't get shafted and left sitting here wondering what to do now that they have no options. Desperate people do desperate things. Like deleting whole comment threads.

Incidentally, as an anthropology major, I know quite a bit about ape shit. I also know quite a bit about how far it can be thrown be an adult male chimp and with how much force. Farther and harder than you would expect.

Raising the fines is a great way to stop the illegal hiring, which is what causes the illegal immigration. But I'm sure since it makes so much sense it will never happen.

Maybe we can line the apes along the border and let them hurl feces all day. Hell, we already have the minutemen doing the same thing.

I don't understand why this insanely simple idea doesn't get more play. The braying a-holes of the media always talk about employer-fines like it's some craaaazy idea from deep outer space. Was it just me, or did also have to provide proof of eligibility to work (which for most of us is our Social Security card and our Driver's License) at the time of hire for EVERY JOB I'VE EVER HAD. I've worked for very large companies and very small ones. I've worked for non-profits and for-profits and even a church! Every single one of those organizations required me to show that I am legally entitled to live and work in the United States.

So who are all these employers who just can't be bothered with this thing that EVERYONE ELSE IN THE US somehow manages to do?

The GOP: We're for law and order, unless we have to ignore the law in order to get what we want!

OMG, two bloggers that have never been seen here before. Now that is fashizzle. Robola, come by RoD too. Please.

Chuckie, your blog might actually be moving into the hip realm. Stand back before she blows!

AG, everybody wants a piece of the Genius.

On a more serious note, it is hard to deny the evidence that a lot of hiring managers are knowingly hiring illegals. I am sure that there are some people who are being duped, but that is likely to be a small minority.

Res Publica's point is still valid no matter how many times he and others have said it. The GOP are now solely about getting away with whatever their corporate friends want.

The GOP: We are for law and order over other people.

uhhh, when were they not? maybe for a while during nixon's time, but in general they've always been a front for the corporate lobbyists. they don;t even write their own fucking laws anyway. they are written for them by the AEI, Heritage, ALEC, or Discovery nuts and sometimes the Christian Coalition whackjobs.

on the immigration thing, i tend to think that higher fines should be combined with this i.e, give everyone(including illegal immigrants) the right to organize. that ought to make them shit their pants a little bit

uhh.. the anyway in 2nd para should be anymore.

aclfu: the right-wing anti civil rights organization

As so many jackass cobagz like to point out, the GOP had a higher percentage of Congress vote for the civil rights amendment, plus Lincoln. So yes, 40 years ago the GOP wasn't so bad, but Nixon got the party pushed over the cliff of legality.

OT, but does it seem to anyone else that Lay & Skilling are in trouble not so much for fucking over millions of people -- making the elderly go without air conditioning, those on in-home dialysis go without electricity, etc -- as for sinking a corporation? What does this say about our society.

Oh, and "cum gargling". Just to keep those hits coming chuckles. No need to thank me.

Chuckles said...

SHouldn't that be, 'just to keep those hits cumming'?

OT, but being in a 757 conducting an emergency landing in a small town in Montana are not as much fun as you might think.

yeah sure. and how many of them are alive now? at least people have seen lincoln's ghost...

if the best "moderate" the current GOP can do is McCain, then they're no longer the party of lincoln are they?

When you say everyone wants a piece of said Genius, you might want to clarify what you mean.

AIF: Completely agree with you. McCain isn't even much of a moderate because he only votes away from the party line when the GOP has already won enough votes to win anyway or doesn't care about the bill.

Chuckles said...

Sorry, political refugee, but I don't agree with you at all.

Yes, laws were broken by both the border jumpers and by the illegal hiring of those border jumpers. Businesses will continue to hire illegal immigrants as long as the fines do not make the penalty stiff enough. A $20,000 fine is nothing to a company that saves more than $30,000 a year by hiring people at vastly lower wages and without regards for work place safety or benefits.

Attacking immigrants is attacking the effect. If the first three wavees of people had not been able to find jobs after reaching the US, do you think they would have brought their families and their friends? Not likely.

Wake up and smell the propaganda.

Someone has been away at a wedding all weekend and definitely not getting laid.

I thought weddings were a great place to get laid. Or at least to get a pole smoked.

Straight people is whack.

Yeah, I'm already hearing stories about what someone did at the wedding!

BTW, I saw some pictures. DUDE!!! Your hair! I haad no idea it was so short. You're lookin' really good.

8-) Jenny

Jenny: Thanks. I have been working pretty hard at the whole looking awesome. Email me the location of these pictures and I will edit them and post one or two for the rest of us.

political_refugee: Florida is but one state and to claim that those who hire illegal immigrants/undocumented workers are an inconsequential aspect of the problem is a rather narrow view of the situation. If there is no stringent penalty to hiring practices like this, then the companies will keep doing it. You are right in that business does provide innovation and new technologies but that does not allow companies to circumvent the law in order tomake profit or perform research.

What did he do at the wedding Jenny?
