Music Recommendations Shall Be Consumed Saturday Morning

Thanks to everyone who contributed suggestions to this post about my apparent windfall. It may actually happen this week. Or next week. Who knows?

Anyway, while following up on people's suggestions, I went over to Miss Syl's site, Sexeteria. If you are at work right now and I now some of you are, don't go there. Wait until you get home. Anyway, she had a link to a pretty cool song on her site, Because I'm Awesome by The Dollyrots. The song is kinda kickass and it mentions that the singer is awesome and this is because she is smarter than everyone "her brain is really super-sized". That's hot. I think we should get together for a battle of wits.

The planned purchases:
DVDs:
Firefly
BSG Season 2.0 and 2.5
possibly Rome: Season 1 (cuz I'm Titus Pullo, WENCH!)

Music:
Animal Collective - Feels
Golgol Bordello - unknown but whatever I find
Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun
Man Man - Six Demon Bag (That is still a great movie. If you don't know of that which I speak, turn your balls in at the door on your way out.)
Architecture in Helsinki - If they have an album I don't yet own
M. Ward - If something catches my eye
The God Damn Doo Wop Band - if I can find Broken Hearts (Who will also be in Baltimore in July and I am going to that show. I'll skin a cat 34 ways to get there.)
MSTRKRFT - The Looks
Wolfmother - the one with the Frazetta cover art

Yes I have a crush on that guy from Gogol Bordello and his moustache.

That Dollyrots song's doubly awesome because it's Joan Jett sanctioned--their cd is off Blackheart Records.

Gogol Bordello: Gypsy Punks World Strike is probably the best bet for an orientation to them and probably also easiest to find, but all three of their CDs are good. If you can't find any, email me and I'll see if I can, ahem, set you up.

Good luck.

And P.S.: I think people should visit my site especially when they're at work.

Every time Miss Syl leaves a comment here, my buddies believe even more of the wild rumors surrounding my sex life.

If you're going to buy gogol bordello, get "Underdog World Strike." They have incredible energy live... seeing the singer surfing a bass drum which is itself surfing on the normally taciturn chicago Metro crowd while beating it with his microphone is awesome. Even moreso when there's ANOTHER person on the drum at the same time who is beating it with a drumstick. So. Freaking. Great. I thought the singer was going to have a heart attack he was working so hard. Plus the music outshines any gimick.

I'm not sure if my old comment made it on the preveious thread, but Of Montreal's latest is great, as is the latest Apples in Stereo. Also the latest Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse are easy wins if you liked their previous efforts.

This is Rich from Belwah btw. Word!

OMG! people actually know of gogol bordello? whenever i talked to anyone about them they were like who? or mmm bordello!

they are fucking awesome. i bought their album from them at warped tour(i know, i know) and their live performance was so over the top i could not help but enjoy it. i was the only indian guy there, and the friend i went with was also probably the only guy not dressed in black, on a hot, humid cincinnasti summer day.

oh, and they were playing with bedouin soundclash(who are really good in the opposite, understated direction) and it was so much better than all the other stages(except the girls' stage. that was the most fun we had that day)

i love this joint!

Well what did you get, Chucklescake?

Gogol Bordello and Bedouin Soundclash on the same stage seems like it would create a hurricane of music. THe high pressure system of Gogol would generate a fierce reaction when it tried to merge with the extreme low pressure system of Bedioun Soundclash. Gale force riffs and a pounding rhythym rain would drive most people insane. I am glad to hear that you are still with us, AIF.

I for one believe all the wild rumors, Mr. Wang!

so is the frontpage at WRN an April Fools joke, or an overactive spam-eater?

www.wellroundednerds.com/blog is the new address, mdhatter. dontEATnachos moved it a little while back and someone is squatting the old url. They have been for a week or two, we may have to cobagitate.

I emailed about the old WRN site. Apparently when I set up the 'seamless transition' to wellroundednerds.com, Google decided I was spamming (even though there were no ads and it redirected you to a site with the exact same content).

Anyway, I sent them an email telling them that it wasn't spam. They never replied. Then I noticed that it was gone and replaced with spam BS. So I emailed them again, bitching about it.

They have not yet responded.

Google has morphed rather seamlessly from our digital buddies to our digital overlords.

Did I say overlords? I meant protectors.
