This Summer's Movies, Ranked in Order of Preference

1. District 9 (OMGWTFBBQPWND!)
2. (500) Days of Summer (For Zooey Deschanel, I too would suffer.)
3. Up (You can't prove that I cried, so stop lying.)
4. Bruno (Haha, penis!)
5. The Hangover (A close match between these two.)
6. Star Trek (Woulda been higher if there had been a single flying leg kick.)
7. Terminator: Salvation (Opening scene was stupid, and the trailers gave away too much.)
8. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Cutting the brawl at the end? Inexcusable.)
9. Ice Age 3 (Not offensive, just not funny either.)
10. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Why hasn't there been more outcry about the Shuck & Jive twins? Offensive as hell.)

QFT!

If the Academy weren't such emus about SF, I'd say that District 9 deserves an Oscar. Multiple Oscars. It was just that awesome. Maybe it is too cool for Oscar. Maybe Oscar would melt under its coolness. Maybe Oscar would accidentally get splashed in the face by a squirted black fluid...

Sounds kinky, Mandos, but I agree with you completely. Technically brilliant and the lead's performance? Wowza. The expressions on the aliens' faces were alien but also human. So well done, it might convince me to order cooked beef at Dukem.

I just wanted to stand up and say "YES!" when that Token Stupid Liberal expert tried to interpret the train derailment footage, etc, as a misunderstanding over alien pastimes/customs rather than the obvious.

The point was subtle, but it was *there*.

And I am totally dying to know whether you-know-who keeps his promise...and what would happen if he did. But then, half the effectiveness of the story is that we don't know...all we have is bloviating talking heads. Which is awesome.

Speaking of Dukem, I still owe you dinner. Or would if you weren't such a cobag and keep standing me up.

I should have put spoiler space, I guess, but I don't think I actually spoiled anything.

wait, a GOOD science fiction movie?

Obama really DID change things, didn't he? I bet he won't let Lucas make any more pictures.

Capcha agrees; it says NoBen.

I wish Obama had the power to stop him from REmaking his movies.

I've spent more time playing video games than watching movies this summer (Red Faction: Guerrilla is a good time) but I definitely enjoyed Star Trek and The Hangover. I'm disappointed I didn't make it out to see Moon and probably won't catch The Hurt Locker either but I'm definitely going to see District 9 this week.

I'll probably go see D9 again tonight, cuz it's just that good. Think Serenity and how refreshing that felt, but without all the baggage of being mad at Fox.
