Two Quick Comments Before I Run to Work

Scott Kurtz may be a lot of geeks' favorite punching bag, but I think PVP is sometimes funny. I have been moving away from it lately, as I find it seriously losing steam. I may have lost interest completely with this totally lame retread joke from Family Guy. The joke was funny when Family Guy did it because that show is a slim plot surrounded by pop culture jokes and bizarre asides and because Family Guy might as well be a sketch comedy show, but here on PVP it just seems lame and reinforces all the negative aspects of Family Guy-type humor. Furthermore, to have your father try to defend your humor and originality hammers home the complete lack of effort you are giving your work these days. Maybe PVP the series is taking away too much of your attention, but I am not going to pay money to find out.

No critique is fair without a suggestion of how to correct the mistakes*, so I would suggest you move back to your storyline gags about working in a magazine by gamers for gamers. Maybe you dump the WB** style romances, unless they are funny, to satisfy other critics, but I don't really care as long as it is funny.***

In other news, this story about a Tintin trilogy has me simultaneously hopeful and totally depressed. Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro would indubitably do fine work but Spielberg and Burton can not be trusted. Fucking Burton would probably shoe-horn Fucking Johnny Fucking Depp in the roles of Tintin, Captain Haddock, the Fucking Dog and whoever the Fucking Villain is, too. Seriously, Burton, you have lost your way and need to find it again. I don't know what happened to you with Planet of the Apes, but go watch Sleepy Hollow again and figure that shit out before you direct or re-imagine again.

*Nor is arrogance served without telling someone who is eminently more succesful than you how to run their online empire.
**Sorry, I meant the CW but who really gives a shit?
***Also, in the grand tradition of internet shit tossing, the other critics are stupid and wrong by the very fact that they aren't me.

Holy sh*t that was funny. Mostly because you're righth, but still stand alone funny.

You know what's funny? Me writing:
"Maybe PVP the series is taking away too much of your attention, but I am going to pay money to find out."

When I meant to write it as: "...but I am NOT going to pay money to find out."

You're right, that is funny. Also funny was the Michael Bay comment on the wired link... hilarious, actually.

They're remaking Escape from New York, slated for a 2009 release. I'm hoping that a law can be passed against these sort things in the meantime. Seriously. Look at Planet of the Apes? That should be illegal - cruelty to cinema apes.

I like the fucking moronic assholes in the comments about the fact that Tintin isn't as popular in the US. Big fucking deal, there are billions of people with access to movie theaters that don't live in the US and furthermore, you putz, Watchmen is being adapted by Zach Snyder.

And the Michael Bay comment was indeed hilarious.

I was talking about Tintin today, and a 3-D version by Spielberg sounds completely awful. Why can't Hollywood just leave things alone?

Yesterday I was talking about A Confederacy of Dunces with a friend, and we both hoped that any possible movie productions would fall through. Can you imagine it being stripped to just the fart jokes? Ugh.

What's wrong with fart jokes? Tintin could use a few more of those.

Snag, I will brook no disparagement of Tintin. Say what you will about Captain Haddock, but leave the intrepid reporter alone.

I heard a Barbarella remake is in the works.

I'm reminded of The Onion's quote from Barry Bonds "I won't rest until I've tarnished every record in the book."

They're making a movie version of Confederacy? Oh, Ignatius...

Kill me now.

From what I've read all the productions haven't been able to get off the ground... thank god.

That is the nice thing about Hollywood, Claire. A production can get all the way to finished and printed and still be shelved by some sociopathic producer/distributor. Not to mention the various ways a film can die before it is even shot.

In other news, I have an extreme dislike of The Johnny.

Speaking of the CW network how about this quote from the TV "upfronts"

"The biggest news coming from the "upfronts" in New York, as they relate to the CW, is that the network apparently plans to continue operating. Who knew?"
- Tim Goodman

Don't worry, the Genius will still be able to get his superman fix.

I've been going to pvp for years, almost every day. And I have NO IDEA WHY. I cannot recall it ever causing a serious LOLZ momement. I think it has some evil allure... like the Garfield of the internet.

Then again I'm a PA fanatic so I'm supposed to toe the line and dump on Kurtz in a casual way once in a while.

Chuckles said...

I am the same way with PVP. He might as well even give up the pretense of it being remotely related to gaming or computers. Describing it as the Garfield of the internet is perfect.

Penny Arcade is so much funnier. Especially the one where Gabe is trying to say that 40k ripped off Blizzard.

After thinking about it more, I probably go because I like Kurtz's art and character appearance. What they do, however, is pretty boring. Going with the Garfield angle, the perfect example is Scratch Fury... he looks hilarious centering around him are very "I Hate Mondays."
