New Music for Pinko Punko

Mastodon seems to be taking the Rush route. A full stage show for an album about "wormholes, the spirit realm, an early-20th-century Russian Orthodox sect and Rasputin" sounds like just the ticket to get Pinko Punko and pals out of the house and bring this country out of the economic doldrums! Heavy metal prog rock will save us all.

But seriously, I'll have to buy this for my brother's cousin-in-law. He liked 2006's Blood Mountain and I need to maintain my rep.

I'd be careful with the music, C. There's a LOT of prog-rock haters out there.

In a worst-case scenario, they might even descend on your blogs in a fully armed Punmobile.

I am ambivalent to prog-rock. Perhaps I can ride the ambivalence to the show.

So, what do you hear about the new U2 album? Are they irrelevant yet?

brother's cousin-in-law?

I think maybe this should be reclassifed as Rock Opera and then they can go to Broadway!

U2's been a revenant for at least four albums now.

"It's all metaphors for personal s--t," Dailor says.

Sounds more like they're working the GG Allin route...

Seriously, even Neil Peart came up with Randian BS when asked about the songs. How much of a metal meathead do you have to be to not be able to cobble together some neo-mystical philosophical crap for the interview?

wait, didn't realize that these are some of the guys who thought Spinal Tap was documentary.

fulsome recommended them. I think that says plenty.
