A Free Friday

Hey, what do you know? I have a free night tonight. Coincidentally, tonight is also a friend's brithday and another friend's last day in town. Unfortunately, I can't split myself, so I have to choose one friend over another. Since one friend wants to go to my place of work and drink there, my hands are tied in this decision as I am not allowed to drink at my place of work on off nights.

Have fun, Katie.

Will Made Manifest?

Last night, I remarked that DC had not seen any snow yet this winter. We received about an inch while I slept.

You know what else I haven't seen yet this winter? Piles of twenty dollar bills in my apartment. I'm calling in sick and going back to bed right now.

Report From Consumers in the Field

I received these images from one of my brothers and an associate in consumption. Be warned that the images you are about to view are delicious in the extreme and may result in the sudden craving of 44 inch diameter doughnuts or fractal fritters.

I think I just ate 1500 calories by looking at these photos. Time to hit the gym. And by gym, I mean comfy chair and Battlestar Galactica season 4 DVDs.

My sister in law is having contractions. So that's neat I guess, since she's due like now or somewhen. Anyway, most recent cool thing my nephew was overheard saying was a John McCain quote:

I would link to the proper video, but this computer doe snot have an updated flash player and it's not my comp, so oh well.

Out of the Inaugural Mess

Quick show of hands: how many of the inauguration tourists didn't try to go to the Brickskeller for beer and a meal?

Holy crap, I'm tired and I only worked one double shift. What a pansy my slothy ass has turned into over the last eight months of unemployment.

Weeds? I'm in the frigging Savanna

"Let me know before you get too far in the weeds," the manager said to me last night. I was dealing with my third, fourth, and fifth group of 15 to 20 on a night that should have been quiet.
"Too late, I'm on safari in darkest Africa, man," I responded.

Story Time

I have received a few requests to write down some of my bar stories, and so I will try to organize some of my old posts and write a bunch of new ones under the tag of "This One Time..."

I'll try and get the one about the paranoid conspiracy theorist and the bar off Jack London Square up tomorrow.

Oh Hey

Did anyone see Quantum of Solace? I totally forgot about that movie.

1 Russia cuts off gas pipeline through Ukraine.
2 Putin endorses this action.
3 Ukraine and Russia blame each other for the ensuing crisis in Europe.
4 Chuckles reads article and wonders how this is George Bush's fault.

This gem made me giggle: "U.S. national security adviser Stephen Hadley warned Moscow that using energy exports to threaten its neighbors will undermine its international standing." Any American diplomat would hopefully acknowledge the silliness of this statement, but also how appropriate it is. After all, can any other country be more of an expert in undermining its international standing through unilateral and unpopular actions than the USA?

In the meantime, I hope this gets resolved quickly and with international transparency. I do not want to see news of people freezing to death because Putin wants to extort Europe.

In unrelated news, congratulations to Senator Franken. I expect to hear about Secretary of State Stewart soon.

Music Posts to Come Tomorrow

Or sometime. The job is not hard, but the three mile walk home uphill both ways in the snow after a ten hour shift is getting a little annoying. I bet I've lost some weight, feels like my ass has completely fallen off.

Check out Armida and Her Imaginary Band. She gave me her demo CD "A Night at the Liver-Rot Lounge" last night. It's great.

I leave you with this:

Other Sorts of Offers

I have received an offer for my gmail account. For those of you that know the address, I am hopeful that you find this at least as amusing as I.
